The Wildcats knew that they needed to be at their best to finish in the top spot at the regional race with both Canton and Salem hot on their heels in the competition. Lauren Kiley (jr) won the race for the second year in a row with an 18:05 finish time. Londyn Swenson (sr) finished 5th overall with a 19:00 race time, Sarah Coyne (jr) and Aliya Kurian (fr) scored in the 3rd and 4th spots for the Wildcats finishing 9th and 10th overall with 19:50 and 20:02 race times, respectively. The 5th scoring slot for the team win was recorded with Mariella Ma (so) coming in 16th with a 20:24 race time. The 6th and 7th runners for the Wildcats were Lindsay Ripple (sr) and Sash Fox (jr) and they finished 22nd and 35th overall with 20:28 and 21:05, respectively.
Coach Ahearn commented, “It was a great day for our whole team. They have all worked so hard to get here. A varsity cross country team can only consist of 7 runners but the other 33 on the PGXC team work hard to push these 7 to the top and without that sort of teamwork, you can’t be a good team. It truly is a team effort. I am so proud of all of them and today especially the top 7 who accepted the responsibility to toe the line and represent their entire team and school in this tremendous accomplishment.”
She continued, ” The state meet was a destination 2 years ago when we qualified as a team for the first time but we want to go there this year and finish among the top teams. We need a good week of practice to prepare ourselves for the most competitive race of our season.”
