Boys Varsity Cross Country · Plymouth Boys Cross Country Earns Runner-Up Finish at State Finals

On Saturday, November 4th, the Plymouth boys cross country team had their sights set on a top finish at the MHSAA State Finals hosted by Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, MI.

The Wildcats varsity squad came away with its first-ever podium finish as the team secured a 2nd place Runner-Up finish, only three points behind state champion Ann Arbor Pioneer. This is the first team in the history of Plymouth-Canton schools to finish this high at the State Championship meet.

Head Coach Jon Mikosz couldn’t be more proud of his squad that worked hard and stayed humble the entire season. “We came so close to the state champion team, but we can’t be mad about that. We did something that no other cross country team at “The Park” has ever done,” said Mikosz.

Sophomore Carter Solomon had a phenomenal race to pace the Wildcats with a 5th place run finishing the 5000-meter course in 15:24.2. He dropped his personal record, which is also “The Park” Record as well as school record, from his Regional race the previous week by 5 seconds.

Senior Ethan Byrnes capped off a stellar Plymouth career finishing 18th with a time of 15:43.8. He raced with the top group the entire race keeping his team in contention. This is Ethan’s second All-State performance.

Junior Brandon Boyd finished the meet in 38th place. His time of 16:10.3 was a season record. Junior Jarrett Warner was right behind him finishing 45th with a time of 16:13.3. Sophomore Tyler Mussen capped off the scoring finishing 55th 16:17.2. Freshman Patrick Byrnes joined the group of top finishers with a time of 16:24.6, good for 71st. The group of four paced each other the entire race to push towards a top finish in the state.

Senior Adam Stepek ended his season and exceptional career with a time of 17:32.1 which is good for 219th.

Congrats to the Plymouth Wildcats Boys Cross Country team on a fantastic season!
