Carter Solomon | Cross Country/Track & Field | University of Notre Dame

Why did you choose this college/university?

When I stepped foot on campus, I felt at home. That, along with the academic programs, the guys on the team, and coach Carlson’s vision for the future, all made me want to be there.

If you could give any advice to current and future athletes what would you say?

Take your time with the recruiting process. Reach out early to schools if you have any interest in going there. Make a decision that is best for you, and your family.

What will you miss most about Plymouth High School?

What I will miss most about Plymouth High School is the ability to see my friends every day. At Notre Dame, I won’t know basically anyone. It will be a whole new beginning. Although that excites me, I will definitely miss the comfort of seeing my close friends every day.

For the location in Chicago, the academics offered there, and the opportunity to play on such a great team in their amazing facility.

If you could give any advice to current and future athletes what would you say?

Stay focused and don’t let anything get in the way of you accomplishing your goal. The payoff is so much greater than sacrificing the little things now, so keep working towards it and don’t let up.

Amanda Radke | Track & Field | Otterbein University

Why did you choose this college/university?

I choose Otterbein because of its size. With only 3,000 undergraduate students the campus offers a lot of positives such as smaller class sizes, personal relationships between students and professors, and a small-town feel. The campus is also 15 minutes outside of Columbus which gives me a lot of opportunities once I start looking for internships. Finally, Otterbein gets you into classes concerning your major in your freshman year rather than waiting until your junior year. And of course, being able to run track there is a huge plus.

If you could give any advice to current and future athletes what would you say?

Diversify your workouts. Let’s be real, there is no offseason and working at the same thing all year, year after year can be boring not to mention frustrating, so try different things that still keep you in shape. My favorite thing about summer track training was that I got to pole vault, something I didn’t get to do during the regular season. It acted as a mental break for me while still helping me with my high jump and long jump technique.

What will you miss most about Plymouth High School?

I will miss my friends the most. My friends have been the most supportive people in my life, and most of them I met through track, cross country, or soccer. One of the hardest transitions is going to be the fact that they won’t be just a 15 minute drive away anymore. I would be nowhere near where I am today without them.

Joel Drucker | Ice Hockey | Central Michigan University (ACHA)

Why did you choose this college/university?

As I was going to the hockey recruitment camps, the guys there took me in as if I was a part of the team even though I was two years younger than most of them when I first met them my junior year. Then they took me around campus and I fell in love with it ever since

If you could give any advice to current and future athletes what would you say?

Stay focused and keep working hard. When you see everyone else starting to falter, be the one who brings everyone’s spirits back up even if it seems like you all have no chance at winning your game/meet/event and so on.

I will definitely miss the lunch hour, easiest time to get to hang out with my friends before a busy athletic and academic schedule would kick in later in the day
