Varsity Wrestling · Mallory Floreno, Now 2x All-State, Places 5th at the MWA Girl’s Wrestling State Championship.

This past Sunday, more than 250 girls gathered, at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center at Adrian College, in pursuit of a State Title. Plymouth’s own, Mallory Floreno, set out to do just that at the 112 pound weight class.

In a bracket of 30 girls, Floreno started her day with a bye in the first round.

In the round of 16, Mallory wrestled Erxleben from Cedar Springs. Floreno was very dominant, scoring a quick takedown and secured the match with a :34 fall.

The second round brought on Arledge-Teran of Fowlerville. Floreno dropped a close bout to Arledge-Teran, who would eventually be the State Champion at 112 pounds.

Bouncing back in the consolation bracket, Floreno recorded a 2:16 fall over Moin of Gross Pointe North and a 5-1 decision over Conley of Portage Northern.

Floreno, set to wrestle for fifth place against Pituch of Chippewa Valley, was locked in and focused on winning her last match. Floreno scored the only offensive points in the match with a late first period takedown. Holding on to a lead, Floreno won the match by a 3-1 decision.

Mallory Floreno, a sophomore, is now a 2-time All-State wrestlers, placing top 5 in the state in both her freshman and sophomore campaigns.
