Unified Sports Participants,
It is with heavy heart that we inform you that Unified Sports will not be offered for the Spring Season of 2017. Over the last three years there has been amazing growth and interest in the Unified Sports Program. A club of less than 20 students has now grown to a three sport activity that involves over 50 students per season. This rapid growth has produced some “growing pains” and potential safety issues for our student-athletes and staff. We realize that we need to create more comprehensive policies and procedures to govern Special Olympics Unified Sports within our athletic structure. Therefore, Bocce’ Ball will not be offered this Spring so that our staff and administration can take this time to create a structure that promotes a successful program for the future. Please understand that this committee decision was not made lightly and we acknowledge that this may be disappointing to our valued participants/athletes. We truly have the athlete’s best interest in mind. Our goal is to create a safe, sustainable program for the future. We anticipate that Unified Sports will resume in the Fall with Bowling, Basketball, and Bocce’.
Thank you for your participation and understanding. We look forward to an exciting season next year.
