BOYS VARSITY FINSHES SECOND IN KLAA CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT
On Friday February 17, the Plymouth boys mustered their finest tournament performance of the season, finishing second in the season-ending KLAA Championship Tournament. This is the finest performance in this particular tournament in the9-year history of the program! After qualifying (two 5-man individual games and 6 team baker games), the boys stood in 5th place, good enough to make the Top 8 cut to match play. The qualifying effort was led by hard-revving junior powerhouse Boyd Crane who had the highest two-game series in the entire event with 457 (203-254) on the demanding Allen lane pattern. They then went to work, first absolutely demolishing the Hartland Eagles (avenging an early-season match loss) in the quarterfinals, then winning a hard-fought (as always) squeaker over the Salem Rocks in the semifinals. In that match, senior Justin OShaughnessy needed to throw two strikes in the 10th frame to secure the win. By now you have read enough of these wrap-ups to know how that went…lock-city when JP gets the ball in his hand for the cheese – on to the finals. In the finals the boys just came up a break or two shy, losing a couple of close games to the John Glenn Rockets to settle for second place. Great tournament men! Now it is on to regionals Friday Feb 24 and Saturday Feb 25. 24th is the team event (Top Three teams go to the state finals the following weekend) and 25th is the singles event (Top Ten boys go to the state finals). Great job last weekend Wildcats, and good luck in regionals!
