JD Visnaw, a senior on the varsity soccer team, allowed just one goal in three games last week, earning shutout wins against Livonia Franklin and #1-ranked Canton, then allowing one goal in a 1-1 tie with Salem.
Tyler Mussen, a freshman on the boys cross country team, dropped his personal record (PR) to 17:42.2 for 16th at this weekend’s Running Fit Detroit Titans Invitational, good for 16th in a large field of athletes at Cass Benton Metropark. This was a great performance by Tyler, beating many of upperclassmen in the highly competitive race.
Calvin Vos, a junior on the varsity football team (also wrestling and track and field), had a standout game in the team’s loss to Grand Blanc. Vos caught three passes for 49 yards, and shows tireless commitment and coachability in practice.
Surya Saravanakumar (also track and field) and Pranay Karnati play #4 doubles for the JV tennis team. The duo defeated their Canton opponents in three sets last week, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, helping seal an 8-1 victory at the JV level.
Deven Patel, a senior captain on the varsity tennis team, plays #2 singles and battled back from being a set down to beat his Canton opponent last week en route to a 9-0 team victory, sealing the team’s sixth consecutive KLAA South Division title.
Ryan Schmatz, a sophomore on the JV soccer team (also track and field), earned a “clean sheet” mercy against Livonia Franklin, and netted the eighth goal of the game. He also helped earn a 1-1 tie against Canton.
Lydia Bell, a senior on the volleyball team, had nine kills and no errors in 10 swings (hitting .900), plus eight blocks in the team’s win against Livonia Franklin last week.
Gabby Diamante, a sophomore on the JV volleyball team, left her libero position to hit outside for the team at the Bedford tournament this weekend, as the team was down to seven athletes. Gabby played solidly in all areas–defense, serving, and hitting.
Van Riley, a member of the freshmen football team, earned two touchdowns and multiple tackles, playing both sides of the ball in the team’s victory over visiting Grand Blanc last Wednesday.
Spenser Korroch, a member of the freshmen football team, blocked very well on the offensive line and played tremendous defense in the team’s victory over visiting Grand Blanc last Wednesday.
Zoi Rakovitis is one of the DS players on the freshman volleyball team. Zoi has worked hard from the beginning of each match to the final point. Zoi’s next play mentality and focus drive our team during games. Coach Flaherty says, “Zoi is one that always strives to be better each day in practice so she is more prepared for the next game. Zoi is tenacious and will not settle for anything less than what is best for her team. Not only is she a great teammate on the floor, but she is a great one when on the sidelines. You can always hear her yelling positive words to her teammates. I also love her ‘can do’ spirit.”
